Konami do… good? Zone of the Enders: the 2nd Runner M∀RS set for fall release

Konami can’t be troubled to do much with their gaming IPs these days, which makes their upcoming release of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner M∀RS for PC & PS4 all the more baffling.

This remastered edition of Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner M∀RS was first announced at the 2017 Tokyo Game Show. Features of the updated version include:

– 4K visuals
– Optional VR cockpit view
– New control options
– Model Viewer
– Cinematic theater
– Tutorial level & “very easy” difficulty setting for Polygon staff

Zone of the Enders is a 3D mech combat game once helmed by legendary creator Hideo Kojima who has since left Konami. The Zone of the Enders series hasn’t seen a full sequel since 2003 despite getting HD re-releases on Xbox 360 & PS3 in 2012.

Unleash glorious death upon your enemies

The main draw of this remastered edition appears to be the VR support, but it’s hard to say whether this package will entice a double-dip from veterans of the series, particularly those without a VR setup. Luckily, Konami chose a lower price point of $30 for Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner M∀RS. To sweeten the deal (barely), those who pre-order a digital copy of the game from the PlayStation Network get a special “Welcome to MARS” theme, as well as Zone of the Enders avatars. Konami also intends to release a demo of the game on the PlayStation Store so you can try it out prior to the fall 2018 release.

Is it okay to be excited for a Konami game, again? You’ll have to answer that question for yourself, but we’ll all have our answer soon as Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner M∀RS is scheduled to release for PS4 and PC (via Steam) on September 4th in the Americas and on September 6th in Europe and Japan for $29.99/£24.99.

*Note: While a physical release is planned for Western markets, the “Premium Edition” pictured in the featured image at the top of this article appears to be a Japan exclusive at this time.
