Athena’s Arcade Shoot ‘Em Up “Strike Gunner” Now on PS4, Nintendo Switch

“Did the gunners start a union?

Publisher Hamster has announced that vertical shoot ‘em up Strike Gunner is now available on Nintendo Switch and PS4 as part of the digital Arcade Archives series.

Originally developed by Athena and released in Japanese arcades by Tecmo in 1991, Strike Gunner was later ported to the Super Nintendo as Strike Gunner S.T.G. Why not call it “Super” Strike Gunner? Might’ve helped it sell better… In any case, this is the first time that an arcade-perfect version of the game is commercially available on home consoles.

In Strike Gunner, one or two players take flight in the “S.T.G. Strike Gunner” to liberate Earth from a horde of aliens that have overrun it. To help you along the way, each stage has its own unique hidden weapon upgrade usable for just one stage only. Like Altered Beast with space ships? Sorta.

Like other Arcade Archives titles, players can post their high scores to the online leaderboards and change various game settings to match their own personal skill levels and taste.

Arcade Archives Strike Gunner is available today for $7.99 via PSN and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
