Howl Comics recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for Samurai Grandpa and the Eight-Branched Tree part 1, an 80-page follow-up to the first Samurai Grandpa book.

Written by Eastin DeVerna and illustrated by Shawn Daley, Samurai Grandpa and the Eight-Branched Tree will be broken into two parts, and this campaign is for the first half of the story (along with backup stories and behind-the-scenes process material).

At the end of his accomplished life, this samurai has one last tale to tell.

Before Ojichan’s soul can find peace, he’ll need to recount a tale of old to the ancient god of judgement: the Gravekami of Scales. For some, death is only the beginning—but what does fate hold for the fading soul of this this broken old samurai? Ojichan must now tell a tale of what mattered most over his long life in Samurai Grandpa And The Eight-Branched Tree – Book One.

Samurai Grandpa and the Eight-Branched Tree is a magical story of family, love, loss, and soul-searching, wrapped in a celebration of old-school samurai drama. In telling this tale, we were inspired by stories like Samurai Jack, Dragon Ball, and all of our favorite JRPGs. Much like the first Samurai Grandpa book, this one is for fans of frenetic action, heartwarming whimsy, and absurd humor.

Backers can get a digital version of Samurai Grandpa and the Eight-Branched Tree for $10, while signed physical copies start at $25. All backers will also receive a digital PDF version of the first Samurai Grandpa book and a chip-tune soundtrack.
