Independent comic book creator Nick Welch recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for Samurex, a 34+ page sci-fi adventure book.

The project is already fully funded, having raised more than $3 thousand at the time of this writing.

Written by and illustrated by Welch, Samurex follows the adventures of an “advanced cyborg fights an onslaught of foes in an effort to avenge his mentor’s death.”

Here’s the official pitch taken from the Samurex Indiegogo campaign page:

SAMUREX: BOUNTY HUNTER. RONIN.

IN THIS BOOK: A highly advanced android with no real knowledge of how or why he was created hunts down his mentor’s killer only to find himself pitted against a guardian hellbent on destroying him!

SHORT ON ALLIES. LONG ON SWORD.

This isn’t how it was supposed to be. For over a thousand years, the Corvus Clan hunted criminals and monsters, dispersing justice according to a code of honor. But after a century of greatness, Dax Corvus was the last in the Corvus line. When Dax found Samurex locked away in stasis with no knowledge of who or what he was, he became an unexpected understudy and an opportunity to extend the family line. No longer isolated, Dax developed a new vision for the Corvus Clan — one with Samurex by his side.

Fate, and a corrupt vigilante hunter, however, dealt Dax a different ending. Now Samurex is faced with an uncertain future. Can he avenge his mentor’s death and find out the truth of his own origins?
