Athena’s Classic Arcade Shoot ‘Em Up “Daioh” Now on PS4, Nintendo Switch

Talky me banana? Sorry. The Japanese is actually pronounced “DIE-oh” and means something like “great king.

Publisher Hamster has announced that vertical shoot ‘em up Daioh is now available on Nintendo Switch and PS4 as part of the digital Arcade Archives series.

Originally released in arcades by Athena in 1993, this is the first time that Daioh is seeing an official home release.

In this new Arcade Archives release of Daioh, players can select either the Japanese version of the game which has a 2-button layout and you swap between weapons by collecting items, and the international version, which gives you full access to the entire weapon arsenal via a 6-button layout.

Like other Arcade Archives titles, players can post their high scores to the online leaderboards and change various game settings to match their own personal skill levels and taste.

Arcade Archives Daioh is available today for $7.99 via PSN and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
