Throwback Thrills in EC Comics’ Horror Anthology “Tales of Mystery and Imagination”
Last week, EC Comics launched a crowdfunding campaign for Tales of Mystery and Imagination, a 128-page horror anthology.
The project is already fully funded, having raised more than $1 thousand at the time of this writing.
Edited by William Hazle and featuring the work of multiple writers and artists, Tales of Mystery and Imagination is a graphical retelling of sixteen horror tales by—and inspired by—Edgar Allan Poe and H.P. Lovecraft. These stories were originally published as four magazine-sized comics, but now you can get them all collected together in this new hardcover version. The book is also fully ready to print once the campaign ends, so there shouldn’t be much of a wait field backers to receive their books.
Here’s the official pitch for Tales of Mystery and Imagination from EC Comics:
Classic tales from Poe and Lovecraft are given a horrific new lease on life in Terrier Comics’ “Tales of Mystery and Imagination.” Taking its name from the first collected works of Edgar Allan Poe, ‘Tales of Mystery’ compiles all four issues of Terrier’s old-school horror anthology.
Poe’s classic tales, including “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Raven,” and “The Conqueror Worm,” are adapted. Additionally, that other master of fear, H. P. Lovecraft, is represented by adaptations of his atmospheric “Dagon” and terrifying “From Beyond.”Following in the grand tradition of EC Comics, these timeless tales of madness and monsters are given a new and vibrant lease on life, with a strong and eclectic mix of art styles. Where EC had the Crypt Keeper, Terrier Comics introduces the Tattybogle Man—a very Scottish fearmonger who relishes in telling tales of terror and even appears in one or two himself.
Backers can get a hardcover copy of Tales of Mystery and Imagination for $35. If you have more money to spend, you can also get the following tchotchkes and extras:
- Multiple copies of the book
- Variant covers
- Commissioned artwork
It is also worth noting that there is an additional shipping charge starting at $17 for those in the United States.
