Whimsyland’s Manga-Inspired “Jisedai” Issue 1 Now On Fund My Comic (Crowdfunding Spotlight)
Independent author and Whimsyland founder Daniel P. Riley recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for issue 1 of Jisedai, a 32-page, manga-inspired comic book based on the novella series of the same name.
The project is already fully funded, having raised nearly $3 thousand at the time of this writing.
Written by Daniel Riley and featuring illustrations by Kevin Jacob and colors by Ariana Riley, Jisedai is described as a samurai epic and redemption story “set in a future world filled with corruption and cybernetics.”
Here’s the official pitch taken from the Jisedai Fund My Comic campaign page:
Gabriel, raised by Suzakushin Corporation to kill on command for the company’s goals, is the last and youngest member of the Suzakushin “Holy Eight“. Each named for an Archangel, the Holy Eight are highly skilled assassins and enforcers enhanced by cybernetics developed in a hidden lab overseen by one of their own, an enigmatic genius called Raphael. Their leader, GenBu, sequestered Gabriel for most of his life, training the boy in Kenjutsu forms and the tenets of Bushido with the Board of Directors as his Daimyo or Lord. Until his eighteenth year, Gabriel did his masters’ bidding without thought.
Suzakushin Corporation is not the only company in 2447 Tokyo, walled off from the rest of the devastated land after the last great war when China’s Communist Army ravaged the country and installed the Asia-Pacific Alliance in power. Every major company operating within the city has its own clandestine unit of soldiers engaging in what’s known as “low war“, an archaic term for espionage and assassination.
One night, while out on a mission… and confronted by another corporation killer, Gabriel’s life is changed forever.
And it all starts with a girl.
Backers can get a digital version of Jisedai issue 1 for $10, while physical copies start at $20. If you have more money to spare, you can also receive the following tchotchkes and extras:
- Multiple copies of the book

It is also worth noting that there is an additional shipping charge of $10 for all backers.
