Konami’s Arcade Classic “Super Contra” Now on PS4, Nintendo Switch

For my taste, none of the series’ sequels ever quite matched the greatness of the original Contra game (the NES version, that is), but Super Contra came close.

On Thursday publisher Hamster brought Super Contra to the Nintendo Switch and PS4 as part of the digital Arcade Archives series.

Originally released in arcades by Konami in 1988, Super Contra was later ported to the NES, Amiga and PC (DOS). The game calls both Bill Rizer and Lance Bean back to action to once again confront an onslaught of alien enemies. In addition to the classic side-scrolling stages, Super Contra introduces top-down stages to break up the action as one or two players battle their way to the enemy stronghold.

Like other Arcade Archives titles, players can post their high scores to the online leaderboards and change various game settings to match their own personal skill levels and taste.

Arcade Archives Super Contra is available today for $7.99 via PSN and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
