80s Arcade Game “Rug Rats” Gets a Home Release 40 Years Later

The only way to victory is to suck.

Publisher Hamster has announced that Rug Rats is now available on Nintendo Switch and PS4 as part of the digital Arcade Archives series.

Originally released in Japanese arcades by Nichibutsu in 1982, this is the first time that Rug Rats (aka Wiping) is seeing a release outside of Nihon, while also being the first official home release anywhere.

In Rug Rats, players become Koomil, a sentient vacuum cleaner that must clean away the dirt, germs and filth that lives underfoot. Koomil can shoot soap to stun germs, and once stunned you can suck them… into the vacuum cleaner. Only those truly skilled in the art of sucking will achieve the high score.

Like other Arcade Archives titles, players can post their high scores to the online leaderboards and change various game settings to match their own personal skill levels and taste.

Arcade Archives Rug Rats is available today for $7.99 via PSN and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
