Taito’s Fantasy Arcade Game “Rastan Saga II” Now on PS4, Nintendo Switch

Publisher Hamster has announced that Rastan Saga II (aka Nastar Warrior) is now available on Nintendo Switch and PS4 as part of the digital Arcade Archives series.

Originally released in Japanese arcades by Taito in 1988 and later ported to the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive and the PC Engine, this is the first official release of an arcade-perfect version of Rastan Saga II since the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console service shut down in 2019.

Set as a prequel to the first game, Rastan Saga II tells the tale of “how Rastan earned his name by saving the sacred land of Rastania.” Players assume the role of the titular barbarian hero as he battles against an evil cult to protect a sacred temple. To assist in this effort, you can upgrade your weapons and collect magical power-ups to deliver an epic beatdown to your foes. It’s also worth mentioning that this Arcade Archives release uses the Japanese ROM as the basis of the game.

I’ve never played the arcade original, but the Genesis port of Rastan Saga II was really rough, so take that for whatever it’s worth.

Like other Arcade Archives titles, players can post their high scores to the online leaderboards and change various game settings to match their own personal skill levels and taste.

Arcade Archives Rastan Saga II is available today for $7.99 via PSN and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
