“Konami’s Table Tennis” Now Available on PS4, Nintendo Switch
From Pong to Virtua Tennis, there is a rich history of arcade-style tennis games that are way more fun than they have any right to be. One of the quirkier parts of that tradition is Konami’s Table Tennis, which is now available on Nintendo Switch and PS4 as part of Hamster’s digital Arcade Archives series.
Originally released in Japanese arcades by Konami (duh) in 1985 and later ported to the Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum and the Nintendo Famicom Disk System (why?), this is the first time that an arcade-perfect version of Konami’s Table Tennis (aka Ping Pong or Smash Ping Pong) is seeing an official release in the West.
Konami’s Table Tennis aims to recreate the fast-paced sport of table tennis. The players are represented by disembodied hands that float across the table and have a smooth, satisfying ‘flip’ animation when they hit the ball. Players must score at least 10 points with a 2 point lead to win the match, with nine skill levels to beat before being crowned the King of Ping…… pong.
Like other Arcade Archives titles, players can post their high scores to the online leaderboards and change various game settings to match their own personal skill levels and taste.
Arcade Archives Konami’s Table Tennis is available today for $7.99 via PSN and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
