First Look Comic for High Fantasy Tale “The Band of the Crow” Now on Kickstarter, Indiegogo
No, it’s not about Hangman’s Joke
Crowfire Studios recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for a first look at The Band of the Crow, a 30-page preview comic intended as an affordable proof-of-concept for the full book which is planned for a later date.
The project is already fully funded, having raised nearly $2 thousand at the time of this writing. Perhaps the best part, however, is that production on the comic is already complete and at the printer right now, so the turnaround time between backing and receiving your book should be fairly quick.
Written by Arvid Nelson (Rex Mundi) and Malaysian artist Oren, The Band of the Crow is described as “a high fantasy story in the tradition of the great English masters, from William Morris to Lord Dunsany and JRR Tolkien.”
Here’s the official pitch taken from the The Band of the Crow website and crowdfunding campaign page:
The Year of the Goddess, 924
Frost giants have trampled the world beneath their feet. The last remnants of Man cling to life, fighting back with the Holy Art of Sorcery.
Therial is 16 winters old, pledged to marry the heir of a rival family, thereby ending a bitter feud. But first he must claim his fale, a magical amulet that will sharpen his spell casting and make him a full-fledged sorcerer.
To do this, he’ll have to find the center of a vast labyrinth called an Endless Knot, and not all who enter emerge again. What horrors will he find within the Knot? The shadows loom dark among its twisting passages…
Backers can get a digital version of The Band of the Crow: First Look for $2, while physical copies start at $3. There’s also an Indiegogo-exclusive variant cover edition inspired by the classic Ultima RPG series.
It is also worth noting that there is an additional shipping charge starting at $5 for those in the United States.
