PS4 version of “Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet” hit by Sony’s recent censorious turn

The updated version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3 is the latest victim of Sony’s new censorship policies, as several items which were available in the original version of the game are being removed from the upcoming Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet. These items include the “jet black fan” and “gold fan” used for loosening clothing, as well as the “softening gel” which adjusts the “jiggle” physics of the characters.

Again, it’s important to highlight that these items are being removed from a Japan-only release, and that they were included in the original version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3. The items will also remain in the Nintendo Switch version of the game, which oddly makes the Switch version the definitive version of Dead or Alive Xtreme 3: Scarlet.

The stellar YouTube channel Censored Gaming has the details in video form below.

Recent changes at Sony have required even Japan-only titles to meet Western standards when it comes to adult-themed content, which has resulted in several games being censored on the PlayStation platform, including Omega Labyrinth Z, Senran Kagura Burst: ReNewal, and others.

It’s a very strange world we live in when a Nintendo console is the bastion of free expression while Sony seems content to backslide into an early 90s mindset of game censorship. It’s unclear which member(s) of the Taliban Sony has put in charge of curating their PlayStation content, but here’s hoping that someone in U.S. counterterrorism is able to find, fix, and finish them off before another game gets the Taliban treatment.

In the meantime, vote with your wallets.
