Want an uncensored “Onimusha” experience? Play with Japanese voices

The HD remaster of Capcom’s Onimusha: Warlords is finally upon us, but those who remember the game’s PS2 release in 2001 may recall that a scene in the western versions of the game was censored when compared to the Japanese original.

The scene in question is just before the boss battle against Hecuba, a female demon who transforms, quite dramatically, into a giant mantis-like monster. The western localizations in 2001 removed some of the more suggestive animations, including what appears to be Hecuba birthing her own insectile abdomen. If you have a transformation fetish, the sequence is erotic gold (er, probably- I assume).

For those worried that the new remastered release of Onimusha would also be censored, you’re in luck. If you opt to play with the Japanese voices (English subtitles are fine), then you will get to see her disturbing transformation in all its glory.

The excellent YouTube channel Censored Gaming has a great breakdown of the differences in their video below.

So there you have it. Want the full Onimusha experience? Make sure your voice language is set to Japanese. And if instead you prefer to not have mature themes in your mature-rated games? Choose the English voices and you’re covered too, ya’ big weirdo.

Onimusha: Warlords is available now for PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and other consoles.
