Ugandan Knuckles discovered in “Team Sonic Racing” as “Meme Knuckles”
SEGA has been showing off its upcoming kart racer Team Sonic Racing at quite a few conventions and events over the last month. It appears that one lucky player at Italy’s VJC convention has already unearthed one of the game’s secrets: Ugandan Knuckles is a playable racer in the game.
After selecting Sonic as a racer, the build of Team Sonic Racing at the show seemingly glitches, starting the player instead as Meme Knuckles, the familiar character made famous in VR Chat known more popularly as Ugandan Knuckles.
Giving the character the name “Meme Knuckles” rather than “Ugandan Knuckles” begs the question of whether he will have any of his trademark phrases, including “Do you know da’ way?” and “Hello, my queen!” Since securing the rights to those voice samples would require that SEGA spend extra money, it’s unlikely. It may also be part of the reason why the character is not named “Ugandan Knuckles” in the first place. However, there’s no way to hear the game sound in the off-screen recording, though, so it’s not completely out of the question.
SEGA has not publicly commented on whether Meme Knuckles will be unlockable, DLC, or otherwise. You can watch the off-screen video of Team Sonic Racing and Meme Knuckles in action here.
Team Sonic Racing is scheduled for release for PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and other consoles on 21 May.
