Ethan Van Sciver creating Cyberfrog variant covers for “Vampirella Vs. Reanimator”

Now that his work on Cyberfrog: Blood Honey is complete, comic book writer/artist Ethan Van Sciver is prepping his next crowdfunding venture: a set of variant covers for Vampirella Vs. Reanimator.

Van Sciver intends to launch the first Indiegogo campaign for a Cyberfrog variant of Vampirella Vs. The Reanimator #1 within the week. If successful, he intends to follow up with Cyberfrog variants for the remaining issues of the 4-part miniseries. Here’s a work-in-progress peek at the first cover.

It’s important to note that Cyberfrog and Salamandroid will not appear in the pages of the story; these editions will only have new covers featuring EVS’s characters alongside the title characters of Vampirella and the Reanimator.

This is an interesting way for fans of Van Sciver’s work to discover a series that they may have missed, but what is that series all about, anyway? Originally released by Dynamite Comics in late 2018/early 2019, the Vampirella Vs. Reanimator miniseries was a macabre crossover featuring the work of writer Cullen Bunn and co-writer/artist Blacky Shepherd.

Here’s a summary of the mini-series from Dynamite:

“How could Vampirella and the Reanimator not have met before now?!!?! Herbert West–the Reanimator–has long sought the secret to perfecting his reagent and break death’s hold on mankind once and for all. The key to his success lies in only one place–the forbidden tomb of the Aztec god of death! But disturbing sleeping gods is as troubling (to put it mildly) as raising the uncontrollable, murderous dead… especially when this deity is an ancient enemy of Vampirella of Drakulon! It’s vampire versus mad scientist in a battle that threatens to tear the gates of the underworld asunder!”

Will the EVS/Dynamite marketing partnership be the crossover success both parties are hoping for? While we wait for the Cyberfrog variant cover campaign to go live and answer that very question, here’s a couple of sample interior pages from the Vampirella Vs. Reanimator miniseries to whet your whistle.
