The Japanese version of “Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore” could be censored, too
We reported last week that the Switch remake of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE appears to be censored based on its reveal trailer from last week’s Nintendo Direct. However, information has started to surface which suggests that not only could the western release be affected, but the Japanese version could very well be censored, too.
According to Sankaku Complex, the Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE: Encore trailer shown during the Japanese Nintendo Direct also featured the same censored images as the English-language Direct (implying that both may be censored along the same lines as the Western release of the original Wii U version). It’s still possible that the Japanese Direct presentation was simply using the same footage as the English language presentation for simplicity’s sake.
Gematsu also provided a small ray of hope that the Japanese version of TMS #FE: Encore remains as the original developers intended. Gematsu showcased images from the Japanese Encore website, including a screenshot which appears to show the uncensored version of a costume from the original Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.
One way or another, there still has not been any comment from either Atlus or Nintendo regarding what content changes consumers can expect. While a simple, clear statement could put all of the speculation to rest, it may be best to hold back on those preorders if you’re a free expression purist.
