As part of Cotton’s 30th Anniversary celebration, ININ Games has announced an all-new game in the series: Cotton Fantasy.

Developed by SUCCESS, Cotton Fantasy is a 2D horizontal shooter built from the ground up for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch (It will also be released in Japan under the title Cotton Rock ‘n’ Roll, FYI). This is the first new game in the Cotton series since 2003’s Magical Pachinko Cotton on PS2.

Here’s the official breakdown of Cotton Fantasy from ININ Games:

Cotton Fantasy is a brand-new addition to the Cotton series that sees Cotton and Silk embark on another adventure, this time in HD graphics! The game adds several new shoot ’em up mechanics to the iconic Cotton playstyle, providing a modern gameplay experience, more precise than ever.

Featuring 6 iconic playable characters, 16 colourful and varied scrolling stages, with vertical, horizontal and 3D movement, and an exhilarating soundtrack with iconic remastered tracks from past games, Cotton Fantasy offers a lot of variation and replayability on your hunt for the high score.

Packaged with a light-hearted story full of charming, fun cutscenes, fully-voiced in Japanese, this is a great and accessible new shoot ’em up game for fans of the series and newcomers alike.

ININ will digitally distribute Cotton Fantasy via the PlayStation Store and Nintendo Switch eShop. While a specific release date hasn’t been confirmed, “winter” seems likely. Why? Because physical editions of Cotton Fantasy are coming thanks to Strictly Limited Games, with a planned release date of March 2022.

The physical copies will be available in both a game-only “Limited Edition” (3,000 Switch and 1,500 PS4 copies at €39.99) or a “Collector’s Edition” (2,000 Switch and 1,000 PS4 copies at €109.99).
