“Operation Wolf Returns” Announced at Tokyo Game Show

This week at the Tokyo Game Show, publisher Microids announced that a revival of the classic arcade game Operation Wolf is coming soon to both PC and consoles.
Originally released in 1987 by Taito, Operation Wolf is an arcade game shooter complete with a gun (an uzi, if I remember right) mounted to the cabinet. The 80s were awesome. You young’uns don’t even know.
The new game, Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission, is being developed by French studio Virtuallyz Gaming. First Mission has an updated art style, but otherwise promises to remain “faithful to the original game” and to give players the feeling of playing an 80s action movie.
Here’s the official breakdown of Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission from Microids:
Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission
In the game campaign, play solo or co-op locally as special agents tasked to fight a criminal organization. In addition to drug and weapon trafficking, the organization lead by the mysterious General Viper seems to have developed a weapon of mass destruction! Following the discovery of several of the group bases, the agents are sent on location to dismantle the consortium, eliminate the weapons and free the hostages from various prisoner camps.
Game facts:
• Comeback of the 1987 cult arcade game!
• New art style
• Non-stop action
• A campaign for one or two players
• A survival mode (endless waves of enemies)
• A full blown arsenal (smg, shotgun, grenade launcher…)
• A leaderboard
Operation Wolf Returns: First Mission will be released fall 2022 both digitally and in retail with a Day One Edition for PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch and digitally only on Xbone, SeXbox and PC. A VR version of the game for Meta Quest 2 is expected to release sometime in 2023.
