It took me far too long for that “Octo Gone” pun to dawn on me.

Over the weekend, aspiring comic book creator Ryan James launched a crowdfunding campaign for Octo Gone issue 1, a 48-page sci-fi book intended as the first of a three-part miniseries.

Written and illustrated by James, Octo Gone is described as an “action-packed underwater adventure like you have never seen!”

Here’s the official pitch taken from the Octo Gone Indiegogo campaign page:

Everything you want in a comic book is right here: story, action, excitement, and beautiful interior artwork where absolutely no corner has been cut.

My name is Ryan James. Growing up in the ‘90’s, my dream was to draw comics. More than 2 years ago, I decided to make that dream into a reality. I began developing the Octo Gone graphic novel from an old book I’d written years earlier. Needless to say, this book was a long time coming, and this campaign will hopefully allow me to permanently establish myself as a comic book creator.

Based on the success of this campaign, with your support, there will be 2 more installments in the Octo Gone storyline.

Backers can get a copy of Octo Gone issue 1 for $20. If you have more cash to spend, you can also receive the following tchotchkes and extras:
