Aspiring comic book creator Joe Martineau recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for I Vengeance: Blood Oath, a 48-page graphic novel.

Written by Martineau and featuring illustrations by Rod Luper and colors by Matt Yackey, I Vengeance: Blood Oath is is described as a dark fantasy action/adventure book set in an alternate reality where magic and technology advanced alongside each other.

Humanity developed magic along with the sciences, these magicians thousands of years before recorded history wanted to be deity. They created a pantheon to be worshiped by the masses of humanity. Creatures of the night; werewolves, vampires, mutations and others were created by by them through magic. Some of these creatures were good, others created by dark magic and experiments were evil.

In the end, thirst for power, and a lust for eternal life destroyed most of humanity. Cities sunk into the earth, continents divided, others sank into the depths of the sea while volcanoes exploded along with other calamities. The flood washed the earth and covered the stain brought by magic from the earth’s surface. Humanity survived as did powerful artifacts as well as a few creatures. These powerful artifacts infused with magic continued to exist for those few who could tap into their power as did magic. Creatures of the night continued to exist in small numbers through thousands of years of evolution.

The story starts in 2022. The main character is mortal but is offered an opportunity to be so much more. It is Phoenix AZ, Alysia is caring for her aging grandfather, she goes to school and works part time taking care of her grandfather during her free time and lives the life of a young adult. Her night is shattered by a home invasion. She was taught marksmanship, self-defense and tactics as a child and teenager by her grandfather and father. She acts instinctively when threats are present. What she found in the battle opened her mind, setting her on a new path.
