Taito’s “Bonze Adventure” Joins the Arcade Archives on PS4, Nintendo Switch

Publisher Hamster has announced that Bonze Adventure is now available on Nintendo Switch and PS4 as part of the digital Arcade Archives series.

Originally released by Taito in 1988 for arcades, Bonze Adventure (地獄めぐり) is a 2D arcade action platformer somewhat in the vein of Ghouls ‘N Ghosts. Here’s the quick story synopsis from Hamster:

Enma, king of the underworld, once kept order in his domain.

However, one day, he suddenly lost his mind and plunged the underworld into chaos.

This prompts Buddha to ask high priest Kackremboh from the mortal world to exorcise the evil from Enma.

Buddha also granted Kackremboh prayer beads as a weapon for his mission, sending him off to battle the demons, ghosts, and even Lord Enma.

While there was a PC Engine (TurboGrafx 16) port of the game, this is the first time that Bonez Adventure is commercially available outside of Japan.

Like other Arcade Archives titles, players can post their high scores to the online leaderboards and change various game settings to match their own personal skill levels and taste.

Arcade Archives Bonze Adventure is available today for $7.99 via PSN and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
