Narwhal’s Animal Adventure “Cerberus” Digging Up Big Bucks on Indiegogo

The heartwarming tale of a corpse and his dog.
Over the weekend, independent comic book creator Per Berg (aka Narwhal) launched a crowdfunding campaign for Cerberus, a 92-page mystery graphic novel.*
The project has an ambitious $30 thousand goal but is well on its way to being fully funded, having raised more than $13 thousand at the time of this writing.
Written by Berg and featuring illustrations by Monika Maccagni (Monster M.D. and Terror in the Trenches) and colors by both Berg and Jared Jewell (great name for a colorist, no?) Cerberus is described as an “epic animal adventure” that resembles Don Bluth’s classic animated stories from the 1980s. Cerberus is also Berg’s first collaboration in which he is not the book’s artist.
The Splintering’s own Amanda B has already been given an advance look at the Cerberus, and says that “Narwhal is a master of cinematic storytelling on paper. His best yet.”
Here’s the official pitch taken from the Cerberus Indiegogo campaign page:
When Lee Button’s human master is murdered, he begins an investigation to find the killer, his only lead: It was another dog that did it.
Lee’s investigation will take him through the animal kingdom of the city of Seattle, Washington, as he parallels the human investigation happening in tandem.
This campaign is for part 1, and is 92 pages. 90% of the mystery is resolved in this edition, just not the BIG TWIST (can you figure it out before part 2 releases?).
Backers can get a digital version of Cerberus for $20, while physical copies start at $25. If you have more cash to spend, you can also receive the following tchotchkes and extras:
- Multiple copies of the book
- A Cerberus movie script
- A bonus Cave Slave book taken from the pages of the Narwhal Shorts Compendium
- A copy of Narwhal’s Interactivity book of essays on storytelling
It is also worth noting that there is an additional shipping charge starting at $9 for those in the United States.
