Crusade Comics’ “Shi: Senryaku Omnibus” Crushes $100k (Crowdfunding Spotlight)

Ichi, ni, san, Shi… jyu man!

Crusade Comics recently launched a crowdfunding campaign for Shi: Senryaku Omnibus, a 240-page book that is part graphic novel, part art book.

The project is already well beyond fully funded, having raised more than $100 thousand between all crowdfunding platforms at the time of this writing.

Originally released in 1995, Shi: Senryaku Omnibus is an illustrated version of the Thirty-Six Stratagems taken from Sun Tsu’s Art of War, interpreted as a series of lessons taught to a young Ana Ishikawa by her grandfather and illustrated some truly legendary artists such as Frank Frazetta, Jae Lee, George Pérez, and of course Shi creator and teen sensation Billy Tucci.

Here’s the official pitch taken from the Shi: Senryaku Omnibus Indiegogo campaign page:

The Thirty-Six Stratagems of the Art of War…

Conceived by Shi-creator Billy Tucci and Gary Cohn and written by Cohn, Senryaku boasts a legendary list of comic book superstars including:

Jim Lee, Amanda Conner, Frank Frazetta, Adam Hughes, George Perez, Jae Lee, Marc Silvestri, Humberto Ramos, Jimmy Palmiotti, Stan Sakai, Joe Quesada, Jeff Smith, Terry Moore, Geof Darrow, Billy Tucci, Dan Jurgens, Joe Jusko, David Mack, Mark Texeira, Julie Bell, Jim Balent and more!

A quarter century ago, the greatest independent and mainstream comic book artists came together for an epic and original graphic novel experience the industry had never seen before.

Meticulously rescanned and remastered art, over half of which have never been seen before, to be reproduced as their creators originally envisioned it will make the 240-page, hardcover, premium-formatted, Shi: Senryaku Omnibus the greatest collection Crusade has ever produced!

Over half of the Omnibus art pages have never been seen before and we hope you enjoy reading this amazing piece of comics history we loved making so much.

Backers can get a digital version of Shi: Senryaku Omnibus for $15, while signed hardbound physical editions start at $60. If you have more money to spend, you can also receive the following tchotchkes and extras:

  • Additional copies of the book
  • Collectors pin
  • T-shirt
  • Art prints
