“Earthbound: Grand Prix” Launches Exclusively on Fund My Comic
In space, no one can hear the silent “X”
Over the weekend, Per Berg (aka Narwhal) launched a crowdfunding campaign for the Earthbound: Grand Prix issue 1, a 44-page sci-fi book intended as the first of a 6-issue miniseries.
Written and illustrated by Berg, Grand Prix is the sequel story to the celebrated Earthbound graphic novels. This is also the first time that Berg has launched a campaign exclusively on the Fund My Comic website. The project is already fully funded, having raised more than $6 thousand at the time of this writing.
Here’s the official pitch taken from the Earthbound: Grand Prix Fund My Comic campaign page:
After the events of Earthbound, we jump in three years later and all the iconic characters of Earthbound are in different places, but are poised for a potential reunion at the Grande Prix, and they know it. They’ve been keeping an eye out for each other, wondering when they might meet again. Of course it would be here, at the Galaxy’s greatest fighting tournament, where all the legendary heroes and villians meet, to fight, yes, but also to party.
But something is afoot beneath the surface of the tournament, one of the main administrator’s has gone missing and foul play is suspected. Wiz Kid and his friends investigate the disappearance as the tournament plays out in Earnest.
Detailed here is PART 1 of 6, a 48 page staple bound comic. The story will continue and flow, but it does end at a conclusive point of the story here, and feels like a great issue of a comic, which it is… that’s why I decided to release it this way! That and one other reason I’ll detail below. This is the BEGINNING. And from here, all bets are off.
It is not necessary to read Earthbound in order to enjoy GRANDE PRIX, heck it’s not even recommended.
I recommend NOTHING! I only stare somewhat longingly into the abyss, take that as you will.
Backers can get a copy of Grand Prix issue 1 for $16. If you have more money to spend, you can also receive the following bonus items:
- Multiple copies of the book
- Variant covers
- Copies of Earthbound books 1 & 2 if you want to catch up
- A bonus book – Robozan: Remaster
- Copies of other previous Narwhal comics
- Interactivity – Narwhal’s book of essays on his approach to storytelling
It is also worth noting that there is an additional shipping charge starting at $7 for those in the United States.
