Irreverent Comedian Donovan “Crip Daddy” Castillo Passes Away

Online comedian Donovan Castillo (aka “Crip Daddy”) passed away earlier this week after a lifelong series of health problems.

Crip Daddy is best known for his scathing commentary and unabashed comedic style that he regularly dished out via social media. This news also comes roughly a month after the release of his first stand up EP titled Sports Illustrated: Comedian Edition, which you can find here.

Despite his long-term health concerns, Donovan’s passing still came as a shock to his loved ones. A GoFundMe page was set up to assist his family with funerary costs, and fans answered the call by fully funding the campaign in less than a day. Any excess funds raised will be donated to a charity in Donovan’s name, and you can still contribute here.

Here’s the statement from the GoFundMe page:

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Donavan Castillo (aka cripp daddy aka yung crip)

Anyone that had the pleasure of meeting this man knows the joy and uplifting energy he carried. He touched the soul of every person he came across. As we remorse the loss of such a special soul it’s more important then ever to remember what Cripp Daddy was all about, that joy and laughter can be found in any situation regardless of how good or terrible. That you can still find a smile and laugh in the face of pain. To chose to enjoy life and make the most of it regardless of what it throws at ya…

With that being said this was obviously sudden and unexpected his family is struggling to cover the very costly expenses of the cremation process and all that it involves, we need to come together to give his loved ones and himself the services his family needs to heal from this.

While mourning his loss is absolutely appropriate for loved ones and fans alike, a lot of us (myself included) deal with adversity with humor and sarcasm. In that spirit, one that I think Crip Daddy himself would have appreciated, I encourage everyone to check out his comedy special here or just explore the wealth of humor that can still be found on YouTube and other social media.

You were absolutely one of the funniest sons-of-a-gun on the internet, Donovan, I’m going to miss your dark, irreverent humor. May God speed your spirit on to a better place, and may He grant your family and friends peace and comfort in this time of loss.

“Crip Daddy” is actually the one on the right. Derp.
