Atari 2600+ Now Available for Preorder

Atari has announced that the 2600+ retro console is now available to preorder.

The 2600+ is not a “Flashback” style system preloaded with set titles, it’s an emulation-driven clone console that is compatible with Atari 2600 and 7800 cartridges – though it comes packed with a 10-in-1 game pak if you’ve yet to build a retro Atari collection of your own.

That said, the 2600+ is compatible with with most original 2600 & 7800 game cartridges and controllers, too (you can check out the compatibility list here). The output features both an HDMI and widescreen mode so it will connect to modern TVs. The Atari logo also lights up when it’s powered on, which is a cool little design update.

Here’s the official breakdown of the 2600+ from Atari:

Enjoy your favorite 2600 and 7800 games on the Atari 2600+!

Over 30 years in the making, this all new Atari system pulls double cartridge duty and is fully equipped with HDMI and widescreen mode for connectivity to modern TVs.

Jump right in with the included CX40+ Joystick and a 10-in-1 game cartridge that features some of Atari’s most famous games:

  • Adventure
  • Combat
  • Dodge ‘Em
  • Haunted House
  • Maze Craze
  • Missile Command
  • RealSports Volleyball
  • Surround
  • Video Pinball
  • Yars’ Revenge

At $129.99, it’s a bit on the pricey side for a clone console running on emulation, but the ten free games and the authentic (officially licensed) retro design aesthetic of the console itself certainly cushions the blow. Though I’m sure there’s also some purists out there thinking, “No 5200, Jaguar or Lynx support!? Pfeh!” Can’t blame ya’.
