Eliminate The Alien Hordes in Taito’s Arcade Puzzler “Volfied” Now on Consoles

It’s German for “to be nursed by wolves.” Germans are friggin’ weird, man…”

Publisher Hamster has announced that Volfied (ヴォルフィード) is now available on Nintendo Switch and PS4 as part of the digital Arcade Archives series.

Originally released in Japanese arcades by Taito in 1989 and later ported to multiple platforms including the SEGA Genesis, Atari ST, Commodore 64 and TurboGrafx-16, this is the first time console gamers are getting an arcade-perfect version of Volfied since Nintendo shut down the original Wii eShop.

Players take flight in the Monotros to retake territory from swarms of aliens who have invaded your home world. Similar to the action-puzzle mechanics of Qix, you will use the Monotros’s laser to recapture territory, with 80% required to advance in each stage. Of course, the enemy aliens will be out to eliminate you or break your barriers as you create them, so you’ll have to be careful and use your abilities wisely.

Like other Arcade Archives titles, players can post their high scores to the online leaderboards and change various game settings to match their own personal skill levels and taste.

Arcade Archives Volfied is available today for $7.99 via PSN and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
