Earlier this week, Japanese game publisher Tatsujin released Amusement Arcade Toaplan for iOS and Android mobile platforms.

Founded by Masahiro Yuge, one of the original founders of Toaplan, Tatsujin takes its name from the Japanese version of Truxton.

With that little knowledge nugget out of the way, Amusement Arcade Toaplan is a free-to-download collection of classic arcade games, which includes Truxton for free (yosh!), demos of five other games (Tiger Heli, Wardner, Flying Shark, Snow Bros and Teki-Paki), and full versions of all 25 titles can be purchased via in-app purchases.

All of the games are described as “faithful renditions of the arcade originals”, with none based on home ports. Players can also choose between the original Japanese or the international versions of the games, some of which will show “fascinating differences.”

The games can be played directly on your screen using touch controls (blech), or by connecting external controllers via Bluetooth.

Retro gaming aficionados will be happy to know that the collection features a variety of visual filters to more accurately recreate the arcade experience, and individual game settings can be adjusted to your liking, such as difficulty, lives, and invincibility… even a gaming journalist should be able to reach the end!

Every game you unlock will appear as a mini arcade machine in your own virtual arcade, which you can arrange and rearrange as you like. Your personal arcade can also be outfitted by bonus decorative items such as “game-character standees, potted plants, chairs, and even beds” should you want to take a nap amid the glow of your CRT heaven.
