The Sci-Fi Horrors of “SCP: Project Pneuma” Coming to Steam on October 25
Liz left the cage doors open at Site-19… again. Stupid Liz…
Indian indie (*snick!*) development studio Zatun recently dropped a launch trailer for SCP: Project Pneuma, its first-person, psychological survival horror game built on the SCP Foundation (Special Containment Procedures) mythos. The full game is landing on October 25 via Steam Early Access. Yes, that would be this coming Sunday.
The backdrop reflects an SCP soul in its purest form. A catastrophic containment failure has gutted Site-19. The corridors are abandoned, security systems have collapsed, and all of the nasty creatures the Foundation had locked in their concrete prison are now wandering the halls like they own the place.
You play as Dr. Alexander “Alexie” Kolchak, a researcher who had the bad luck to survive the collapse and even worse luck (or bad judgment) to go back inside looking for answers about what caused the breach.
Do not expect to shoot your way out, either. After all, “Dammit, Jim! You’re a doctor, not a shoot-bang-Gunny-man!” Since the anomalies cannot be confronted by the second amendment ordinary means, instead you will have to hide, sneak, solve environmental puzzles, and manage your resources while dangerous freaks of nature, or rather freaks of supernature, skulk about with abandon.
The story comes at you the old-fashioned way, too: journals, voice recordings, abandoned equipment, and whatever other evidence the last poor souls left behind. Hallucinations pile on as Alexie pushes deeper, warping the rooms that he has already visited, so even your own memories and experience can’t be counted on as a reliable witness.
The Early Access version of SCP: Project Pneuma comes with the complete Chapter I campaign, and the guest list should bring a smile to the faces of dedicated SCP aficionados: SCP-173Z, SCP-096Z, SCP-939Z, and SCP-239Z. Longtime readers know the house rules for the “Z” crowd. Keep your eyes on the statue. Never look at the tall one’s face. And if something in the dark starts talking in a voice you recognize… run anyway.
You can add SCP: Project Pneuma to your Steam wishlist now, and a playable demo is also currently available Steam right now if you want to check it out before Sunday.
Secure. Contain. Protect. Preload.
