Brain Seal Ltd, the team behind Story of a Gladiator, are thinking bigger with their return to the colosseum. In Dominus Gladiatus, you don’t play as the gladiator. Instead, you run the whole gladiator school.

Launching November 5 on Steam, PS5, SeXbox, and Nintendo Switch for $19.99, Dominus Gladiatus blends elements of a deep management sim with tactical auto-battling combat. Players pick their “Dominus”, then grind through a full season of gladiatorial tournaments against rival school owners. Every recruit you hire, every training session you book, every beat-up short sword you hand a rookie shapes the road to the championship of Rome.

This kind of gameplay loop should be familiar for management sim aficionados: build and expand your ludus, sniff out hidden talent, train rookie fighters into champions, and babysit morale, injuries, and fatigue. Push your warriors too far and your best fighter might end up as somebody else’s cautionary tale.

Then it’s time to enter the arena, where you kit out your gladiators with weapons and armor, and set formations. The tactical auto-battler duels and team battles will ultimately decide who leaves victorious, and who gets carried out on a shield. You can work the crowd too, because spectator favor can literally decide whether your fighter lives or dies. Are you not entertained?
