Fletcher Hart Iiams has spent a year of his life changing with the seasons, with one new set of abilities per season, and now the calendar is catching up with him. SEASONS Vol. 3: Fall is live on Kickstarter, and this is the chapter where things get genuinely dark.

For those in need of a catch-up: SEASONS is Nandor Fox Shaffer’s four-volume supernatural graphic novel series, following Fletcher through one year of his life in real time, with art by Anthony Gonzales-Clark. While volumes 1 and 2 (Spring and Summer) are already done and delivered into the hands of backers, while Fall finds Fletcher at death’s door until his body starts to heal and his feet literally lift off the ground. Given a second chance and a different set of powers, Fletcher heads home to start again, to mend broken relationships, and stop running from his past. Meanwhile, reports start to spread of a highly contagious flesh-eating disease emerging around the world. Shaffer describes the 150-page volume as a grounded superhero drama and a character study about identity, mental illness, existence, purpose, and personal responsibility. That’s heavy, Doc, but it sounds consistent with the overall arc of the series.

A few years ago, we interviewed Shaffer, the founder of Foxhole Comics and creator of SEASONS, regarding the series, and he noted that Fall is actually Fletcher’s favorite season, despite this being the darkest book in the series, thus far. Isn’t it funny how some things just work out?
