Playmaji, the company behind the Polymega modular retro console, recently announced the Mega Cartridge Adapter Set for its EM03 Mega Element Module, which essentially a master key for SEGA’s entire 8-bit lineup.

The adapter set plays Game Gear games, Master System games, Mark III (the Japanese Master System) games, the SEGA Card format, and this is the part that will raise the eyebrows of import collectors, the SG-1000 and SC-3000 software libraries, too.

Other retro clone consoles (like the Retron family) have adapters for Master System and Game Gear, but this may be (unless I’m missing something) the only adapter option for the SG-1000 and SC-3000.

The SG-1000 was SEGA’s first home console, a Japanese-only machine predating the Mark III/Master System, and the SC-3000 was its computer-flavored sibling. So if you happen to be a hardcore retro gaming aficionado with a copy of Girl’s Garden or Star Jacker, you finally have a way to break them out without tracking down forty-year-old hardware on Mercari or eBay.

It should be noted that because the SEGA Card adaptor and Master System adapters are separate parts, you will not be able to use the SEGA 3-D glasses, not that they would really work properly on modern televisions, anyway. (No Maze Hunter or Zaxxon 3-D?!? Oh nooooo!)

You of course need to own an EM03 Mega Element Module (the one that plays Genesis/Mega Drive games) and a Polymega console for any of these adapters to work, if that wasn’t obvious.

Playmaji says the Polymega Mega Cartridge Adapter Set is scheduled to ship in Q1 2027 for $99, and pre-orders are open now.
