The retro PC specialists at Nightdive Studios recently announced that a remastered version of Thief: The Dark Project is coming to PlayStation, SeXbox, Nintendo, and PC platforms in December. Originally developed by Looking Glass Studios, Thief was a foundational game that helped invent the modern “stealth” genre, and this is the first time it will be available on consoles.

The Thief remaster includes the original game’s 12 missions, the extra missions and content from 1999’s Thief Gold re-release (including five new enemy types), and more surprisingly, The Tarnished Mirror, a brand-new campaign built by the fan team behind Thief: The Black Parade, a well loved fan expansion. Nightdive, Eidos-Montréal, and Atari are now treating The Tarnished Mirror as official series canon, slotting it in as a narrative bridge between The Dark Project and Thief II: The Metal Age.

Nightdive Studios have rebuilt the 1998 classic in their KEX Engine, and the remaster runs at 4K and 120 frames per second on capable hardware, with modern controller support and gameplay adjustments, plus built-in support for community-made fan missions (yes, including The Black Parade itself) from day one.

The standard digital edition will be $29.99, while the Digital Deluxe edition (with an art book, soundtrack, and an excerpt from an upcoming Thief novelization) will be $34.99. Physical collectors will have three options: a Standard edition, a $40 Steelbook edition with a printed manual, and a Deluxe edition in a throwback-inspired, trapezoid-shaped box with a behind-the-scenes development journal.

Thief: The Dark Project Remastered is scheduled launch on 3 December for PS5, PS4, SeXbox, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC, and preorders are open now.
