Bandai Namco shows new Soul Calibur VI trailer at E3, confirms October release date

Bandai Namco announced Tuesday that their weapons-based fighter Soul Calibur VI will arrive October 19 on PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC.

Soul Calibur VI details have trickled out fairly consistently since the game was announced in December, and we know that this new entry is a soft reboot for the franchise. Bandai Namco also provided a trailer featuring the game’s all-new story mode.

The story takes place in the 16th century and highlights events during the first Soul Calibur game (which was itself a sequel to Soul Edge, so Soul Calibur VI is also Soul Edge VII, in a sense). Being set during this period, much of the fighting roster includes characters from the original Soul Calibur. Fighters revealed so far include Taki, Mitsurugi, Maxi, Yoshimitsu, fan-favorite, Ivy and even a guest appearance from Geralt of The Witcher series.

Soul Calibur VI also features a new “Reversal Edge” countering mechanic and will be the first in the series to use the Unreal Engine.
