Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice passes 1 million in sales

Developer Ninja Theory announced via social media today that Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has now passed 1 million downloads across all platforms.
Hellblade received high acclaim when it released last August. It was designed and marketed as an “independent AAA game,” achieving high production standards with a smaller development team and priced at only $30 in exclusively digital form.
Hellblade is s blend of hack-n-slash action and psychological horror with themes heavily touching on mental health. Players control Senua, a warrior suffering from psychosis who is on a quest to rescue the soul of her dead lover from the Norse goddess, Hela.
Microsoft announced last week at E3 that they had acquired Hellblade developer Ninja Theory as part of their effort to expand first-party development which Microsoft terms “The Initiative.” So if Hellblade has any future as an IP, it will likely be limited to Microsoft platforms.
If you’ve missed out on Hellblade thus far, it’s available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One, with the PC version bring discounted 40% right now as part of the Steam Summer Sale.
