Second story mode revealed for “Soulcalibur VI”; Tira coming as DLC

This week at Gamescom, Bandai Namco unveiled several new details for their upcoming weapons-based fighter, Soulcalibur VI, including a new story mode and DLC character.

Titled Libra of Souls, this second story mode differs from the already-revealed Chronicle of Souls mode in that players will use their own custom fighters to overcome challenges in searching for pieces of the Soul Edge. Not only will you face off against characters from the main roster in Libra of Souls, but you will also fight other custom characters created by other players.

Players will have thousands of options when creating their own characters. Options include size, clothes, hair, facial features, armor, weapons, fighting style, and 16 different races, including not just humans, but lizards or living skeletons. I’m personally going to recreate the entire cast of SEGA’s Golden Axe, just like I did in Soulcalibur V. And in Soulcalibur IV….

Bandai Namco also revealed that the ring-blade wielding Tira is coming to Soulcalibur VI as DLC, both as part of the season pass and as standalone DLC.

You can check out Tira’s trailer below.

It sucks that a series regular like Tira is being relegated to DLC, but considering that Soulcalibur VI is revisiting the events of the first Soulcalibur game, it makes some sense to push Tira to the side a bit since she didn’t appear until Soulcalibur III. At least we’re getting another sweet single-player mode, which is pretty exciting for solo players.

Soulcalibur VI is scheduled for release on 19 October for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
