Soulcalibur VI will not have loot boxes

According to a very informative thread on the Soulcalibur VI Steam page, Bandai Namco’s latest entry into their weapons-based fighting franchise will not have any kind of loot box system. This probably comes as a relief to many fighting game fans who have recently seen other series adopt a loot box system to unlock character customizations. (looking at you, Injustice 2) Given the extensive customization options that previous Soulcalibur games offered, it’s nice to know that Bandai Namco doesn’t intend to nickel and dime its customers for costumes and armor.

What isn’t yet known, however, is whether the Japanese pre-order bonus costumes will be available outside of Japan. Prominent fighting game YouTuber Dynasty noted that if we still don’t know whether they’re coming over or not when the game comes out in October, it’s probably not going to happen. That’s some sound logic, but it would also be a damn shame. Not only would a couple of swimwear costumes certainly attract many fans, Ivy’s military-inspired attire looks pretty awesome. (See below) Those particularly interested in these costumes may want to import a Japanese copy of Soulcalibur VI just to be safe.

Soulcalibur VI is scheduled for release on 19 October for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
