Alterna founder Peter Simeti officially launches “Alternaween” Indiegogo campaign

On Wednesday, Alterna Comics founder Peter Simeti launched the Alternaween crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.*
Backers who support the Alternaween campaign will be sent bundles of 50 Alterna Comics to be given away as Halloween treats. The comics themselves come in two types of bundles, either an “all-ages” bundle made up of 50 “all ages” and “teen” books, and a horror bundle which has 50 random horror themed comics. These bundles can be picked up for just $30 each, which rounds out to roughly 60 cents per issue. Larger bundles of 100 and 200 comics are also available if you are expecting a high volume of trick-or-treaters.
If you’re looking for something other than just comics, you can snag other add-ons such as Alterna branded mugs, t-shirts, beanie hats, and individual treat bags filled with one comic and a few other goodies including stickers and a “magic artist pencil.”
The intended purpose of the Alternaween Indiegogo campaign is to raise money for Alterna Comics to expand its distribution channels. The more money raised, the more product Alterna will be able to send to these new retailers.
Simeti has long been a proponent of returning comic books to newsstands and other mass-market outlets as a hook to draw new readers into the industry. In May 2017, Alterna introduced comics printed on newsprint “pulp” paper as a way to cut printing costs and pass those savings on to customers. Since then, Alterna has become one of the few success stories to come out of the comic book industry in recent years, built on the back of books that regularly cost between just $1 and $2.
At the time of this writing, the campaign has already raked in over $4 thousand, which is half of its funding goal. If you’re interested in supporting, act fast! The Alternaween campaign is only scheduled to run for 20 days (ending on 9 October) in order to guarantee delivery before Halloween.
