Sean Sweeney’s graphic novel “Oddity” makes the jump to Indiegogo

Over the weekend, independent comic book creator Sean Sweeney launched a crowdfunding campaign for Oddity, an all-new 48-page graphic novel which combines elements of humor, horror, science fiction, and amphibious action. Written by David Shawn and featuring illustrations by Sean Sweeney (aka Sweens) and letters by Eric Weathers (of course), Oddity follows the adventures of a error-prone mutated swamp punk who is tasked with protecting the swamp.

Here’s a plot summary taken from the Oddity Indiegogo campaign page:

Deep in the heart of a strange bayou lives the Oddity. He emerges from his secret lair only when his watery home is in danger from outsiders. Or when he has to make a run to the bait shop to pick up groceries. Frankly, getting him off his couch is kind of a challenge most of the time.

Lazy and careless, Oddity is given strange powers and chosen by the spirit of the swamp to act as it’s guardian and caretaker. It’s a role he accepts reluctantly, and performs thoughtlessly. This dereliction of duty causes him to accidentally unleash monsters on the swamp and the local town. With the help of his mentor, a giant Housefly named Errow, and a local grad student with a dark past, Oddity must learn to embrace his powers and responsibilities and become the hero he never wanted to be.

Backers can get a digital version of Oddity for $10, while physical copies (including a pin-up poster) start at $25. For those with more money to throw around, there are several upgrades and add-ons to choose from, including multiple copies of the book, original artwork, a figurine, a variant cover by Ethan Van Sciver (Cyberfrog), and the chance to have your likeness drawn into the final product.
