Sacré bleu! “Blacksad” released a week early in Europe; developer warns against playing without day 1 patch

The wait is over for Microids’ noire-inspired game, Blacksad: Under the Skin! If you live in Europe, that is. The problem? It wasn’t scheduled to release until 14 November. Faux pas!

While this might seem like a happy accident for some, the developers behind Blacksad: Under the Skin are strongly cautioning European gamers to not play the game yet, as the “Day one patch” won’t go live until the 14th. This is likely due to the fact that the game was – at one time – scheduled to release on 5 November. Someone at Microids must have forgotten to update a date field in their paperwork.

Here’s the message from the Microids team:

Dear friends,

Originally planned for a November 14th release, Blacksad: Under the Skin is available as of today on the PlayStation Store and the Xbox Market due to a technical malfunction.

In order to enjoy the game at its fullest, this version of the game requires an update via a downloadable patch. The patch coming up later these days for the PS4 and Xbox One versions will bring required enhancements to the frame rate as well as fixes for major bugs, missing musics (find more details about the patch below).

Before diving in the adventure of Blacksad: Under the Skin, we strongly advise waiting for this patch as we feel it’s essential to experience the game like the development team at Pendulo Studios envisioned it.

According to the patch notes, here’s what the day one patch is specifically intended to correct:

  • Major Bugs fixed
  • Performance optimization and various improvements
    • Loading textures improvements
    • Textures quality improvements
  • Framerate greatly improved
  • Sound
    • Sound effects fixes
    • Ambient sound added through the game
    • More musics added
  • Some characters animations and lip sync improved

Blacksad: Under the Skin is a noir adventure game based on the graphic novel series is written by Juan Díaz Canales illustrated by Juanjo Guarnido. The books were first published for European readers until it was published in the U.S. by Dark Horse in 2010. The series famously tells gritty noire tales using anthropomorphic characters, with the main character – John Blacksad – being a feline private investigator.

Blacksad: Under the Skin is scheduled to really-really launch on 14 November for PC, Mac, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
