Rumor: Capcom to release “Resident Evil 3 Remake” in 2020

According to reports received by VGC and YouTube gaming news channel Spawn Wave, Capcom intends to release a remake of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis in 2020. This unconfirmed news is certainly plausible, as Resident Evil 2 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi has previously indicated that Capcom would consider releasing more Resident Evil remakes if fans “voice their enthusiasm” for them. Seeing as how the remake of Resident Evil 2 was quite successful (selling 4.7 million units across all platforms as of September 30), that seems like enthusiasm measurable in girthy stacks of cash to me.
There currently isn’t any additional information about the RE3 remake, but the 21st anniversary of the PlayStation original is in September 2020, so that’s a plausible target date for a release. As VGC points out, it’s also possible that the release could coincide with Capcom’s asymmetric online multiplayer game Project Resistance, which went into closed beta in October.
