SEGA’s “Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder” finally coming home thanks to Arcade1up
Monday at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Arcade1up announced that a Golden Axe themed arcade unit will be part of their 2020 releases. This machine includes several of SEGA’s “Team Shinobi”-developed arcade classics such as Golden Axe (duh), Shinobi (double-duh), Altered Beast, Wrestle Wars and Golden Axe: Revenge of the Death Adder.
You read that last one right. Revenge of Death Adder, the highly praised, rare sequel to the original Golden Axe is a part of this collection. Revenge of Death Adder has never before been given a proper home port or release, as the Genesis/Mega Drive title Golden Axe II is a completely different game developed specifically for home consoles.
Like other Arcade1up releases, the Golden Axe cabinet is a 3/4 scale arcade machine with a 17-inch, full-color display, a light-up marquee, and a riser for all of us adults who still want to play while standing up.
Arcade1up also announced several other upcoming releases at CES. The first is a Burger Time special edition which also includes other Taito arcade classics Karate Champ, Bad Dudes and Caveman Ninja (aka Joe & Mac). Burger Time is now available for pre-order and is limited to only 3,000 cabinets, so don’t waste any “burger” time snagging it if you’re interested! (Kill me.)
The next NBA Jam cabinet, which will include NBA Jam, NBA Jam Tournament Edition and NBA Hang Time, and will feature competitive online play (exclusively for North American players).
Finally, Arcade1up also announced that it has partnered with Zen Studios to release a 3/4 size pinball machine that will include tables from several classic pinball developers, though only Bally/Williams was confirmed. (At least that means there’s a good chance for both Pinbot and FunHouse to be included)
Are you psyched that Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder is finally getting a home release? Do any of the other Arcade1up machines tickle your fancy? Let us know in the comments!
