Ikari Press launches supernatural fantasy comic “Brand: Way of the Gun” on Indiegogo

Over the weekend, independent comic book creator and Ikari Press founder Antonio Brice launched a crowdfunding campaign for Brand: Way of the Gun, the direct sequel to 2018’s supernatural fantasy comic book Brand (and by “2018’s”, I mean crowdfunded in 2018, the book hasn’t been delivered to backers just yet).

Artist Caanan White is back as the book’s illustrator, and it looks like the story picks up immediately where the first book left off. Here’s the pitch taken from the Brand: Way of the Gun Indiegogo campaign page:

Round 2!

  • Brand: Way of the Gun is the next 60 page chapter of the Brand saga. Just hours after the events in book 1 David is visited by the sinister Dark Santana and his former mask Horus. David’s life and his relationships are in constant turmoil.
  • We learn more about Dawn and how she fits into the plans of the hustler Fame. We delve more into her past, her present, and her future as we meet the mysterious Jehovah.
  • Akala’s decision to reach out to Jian Yang has caused a power shift within the Covenant and Lionel Solomon is determined to come out on top.

Backers can get a physical copy of Brand: Way of the Gun for $25. There’s currently five different variant covers to choose from, featuring artwork Ethan Van Sciver (Cyberfrog), Matthew Weldon (Punchline), Rob Willis (Shinobi Sasquatch), and Dimitrius Miller.

There’s also a special sixth if you buy into the $200 “Santana Mega-Pack” tier, which bundles every variant option, and adds an extra comic, The Fame Book and a creator’s commentary book.

Was it a mistake to launch a sequel crowdfunding campaign before the first book is in readers’ hands? Perhaps, as backers of issue 1 haven’t been able to judge the merits of the project so far, and enthusiasm for the sequel might be suppressed as a result. That hasn’t stopped Way of the Gun from already surpassing its funding goal, raising more than $5 thousand at the time of this writing.

If you’re still on the fence, Brice has released the first 21 pages from Brand chapter 1 here, so you can give that a look. Otherwise, you can check out some sample artwork below or visit the full Brand: Way of the Gun Indiegogo campaign here.
