Manga Superstar Junji Ito Approached by Hideo Kojima for New Horror Game

During a Comic-Con@Home interview over the weekend, celebrated manga creator Junji Ito (Shiver, Uzumaki) revealed that renowned video game creator Hideo Kojima (Death Stranding) has invited him to work on an upcoming horror game.
During the interview, Ito was asked about his cameo in Death Stranding, and if he was “involved in some video game development at the moment?”
According to Ito (via translator):
“So, the simple answer is no. However, I do know director Kojima, and we have been in conversation that he might have a horror-based game that he might be doing, and so he has invited me to work on that. But there’s no details on it yet.”
Ito was reportedly attached to Kojima’s Silent Hills (and 2014’s P.T./Playable Teaser demo) before the PS4 game was cancelled by Konami in 2015. Now that Kojima is a fully independent creator the popular speculation is that he is trying to rekindle the project without the Silent Hills branding (which is owned by Konami).

Whatever the game and whatever role Junji Ito may have, it’s likely that it’s quite a way down the road. After all, no official announcement has been made and Hideo Kojima’s has his reputation for being – er – meticulous.
Are you excited at the prospect of a partnership between Ito and Kojima? How much stock do you put in the speculation that a spiritual successor to Silent Hill(s) is in the works? Let us know in the comments!
