Shane Davis’ “Starlight Cats” Blasts Off to Instant Success
On Sunday, veteran comic book creator Shane Davis launched the crowdfunding campaign for Starlight Cats, a 48-page sci-fi, superhero graphic novel intended for readers of all ages. The project was an immediate success, having raised over $35 thousand at the time of this writing.
Starlight Cats is co-written and illustrated by Davis and Yanzi Lin and features colors by Candace Han. Oh, and it’s lettered by Eric Weathers, but you probably already guessed that, didn’t you?
Here’s the official breakdown of the project taken from the Starlight Cats Indiegogo campaign page:
Starlight Cats: Merlion Rising
Starlight Cats is an intergalactic action-adventure 48 pages graphic novel that chronicles the exploits of a little girl named Rebecca and the street cat Barnaby. The vicious rat-like aliens known as the Verkins are bent on conquering Earth, and only Rebecca and an elite team of cosmic-powered cats known as the Starlight Cats stand between them and universal infestation.
Starlight Cats is a project that Shane Davis and Yanzi Lin have been planning to work on since 2017. Shane brings to this project almost 20 years of experience as a professional comic book penciller and writer on projects such as DC Comic’s Superman: Earth One, Batman, New Gods and more. He also co-created almost every member of DC Comic’s Red Lanterns, including the world famous fan-favorite cat Dex-Starr the Red Lantern.
Backers can get a copy of Starlight Cats for $25. If you have more scratch at hand, you can also pick up multiple copies of the book, a variant cover, a behind-the-scenes ashcan sized book, a collector’s pin set, original art, and the chance to have the likeness of your own pet cat drawn into the final product.
