Square Enix Announces Multiple “Dragon Quest” Titles for 35th Anniversary

Overnight, Square Enix hosted a special video livestream celebrating the 35th anniversary of their Dragon Quest RPG series.

Details are scant, but here is the full gambit of Dragon Quest goodness that RPG fans have to look forward to:

Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate – “What is the purpose of light?” Described as “an adult Dragon Quest”, by creator Yuji Horii, The Flames of Fate promises a revamped command battle system, and a story that changes dramatically based on the player decisions. Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate is planned as a worldwide simultaneous release.

Dragon Quest Treasures – a new game featuring the characters Erik and Mia from Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Dragon Quest Treasures is planned for a worldwide release.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake – A modern remake of 1988’s Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation (aka Dragon Warrior III) using a visual style similar to Octopath Traveller. The game is set as a prequel to both Dragon Quest I and II, where the hero Erdrick (Loto in Japan) must avenge his father and defend the world from the powerful archfiend Baramos. Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake is planned for a worldwide release.

Dragon Quest X Offline – An offline version of the MMORPG Dragon Quest X planned for a 2022 release in Japan. That’s it. Eh, watch the trailer or something…

Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi – A new Dragon Quest puzzle game developed by NHN PlayArt for Android and iOS devices. Planned for a Dragon Quest Keshi Keshi is planned for worldwide release later this year.
