Unlikely Prequel “Slave Zero X” Unveiled for PC, Consoles

On Thursday, game publisher Ziggurat Interactive unveiled Slave Zero X, a side-scrolling sci-fi brawler, is coming soon to both PC and consoles.

Co-developed by Ziggurat and Poppy Works, Slave Zero X is a prequel to the original Slave Zero released for the SEGA Dreamcast in 1999. Veterans of the first game might notice that Slave Zero X looks quite a bit different than its 128-bit predecessor (remember “bits”?). Not only is the 3D perspective swapped for 2D, but the aesthetic looks to be quite a bit more colorful. Still, Slave Zero X is set in the same world, and was created using concept designs from the original Slave Zero (that’s… pretty cool, actually).

Here’s the official breakdown of Slave Zero X from Ziggurat Interactive, followed by the announcement trailer:

In development by Poppy Works and Ziggurat Interactive, Slave Zero X will bring a whole new experience to fans of the original game. In Slave Zero X, players will don a death-dealing biosuit and do battle against the forces of the evil SovKhan. The game will feature multiple gameplay modes, and a variety of futuristic dystopian urban levels to battle through.

This new entry in the franchise is based on the concept drawings for the 1999 game. With a biopunk flare and H.R Giger influence, the original vision for Slave Zero couldn’t come to fruition due to budget and development time. Now, Poppyworks with Ziggurat Interactive, bring that original vision to life in this fast-paced, hard-hitting, character action game in the unforgettable dystopian world of Slave Zero X.

Features of Slave Zero X include:

• Side-Scrolling Hack and Slash: Chain together lethal attack combos with your sword and an array of explosive ordinance while leaping, sprinting, and flipping your way through a grim biopunk world

Stunning Set Pieces: Conquer mini-bosses and climactic archvillians in unforgettable combat sequences

• Action-Packed Heroic Missions: Battle your way through massive levels, mazes, and boss-rushes in a dynamic 2.5D world

• Epic and Dynamic Ambiance: Immerse yourself in a world of heavy Drum ‘n Bass and industrial tracks that get more intense as the action heats up

Slave Zero X is coming soon to consoles (specific platforms not confirmed) and Steam PC.
