Earlier this month, independent comic book creator Charles (Chuck) Bonetti launched a crowdfunding campaign for Spearhead Zero, 20+ page black and white manga style comic book.

Written by Eric J. Berry and featuring artwork by Oray Studios and lettering/editing by Bonetti, Spearhead is a spinoff of the action/comedy Sporkman Goes to Japan.

Here’s the official pitch taken from the Spearhead Indiegogo campaign page:

The story will be spinning off of our Sporkman Goes To Japan Mini-series. This “Zero” issue kicks off a brand new story for our heroine Natsume. Spearhead: Zero will be a 20+ Black and White Manga and it will have darker themes from manga’s like Ghost In The Shell, You’re Under Arrest and more. Our version of Japan pulls from these elements and incorporates into a unique story. We currently have a cover and 5 pages finished and are working on the other pages while we speak and Chuck does the lettering.

Nastume Wubi – A.D.F. agent. Unsung hero. Scientist, Creator of the Super Mecha Sporktron. Carries a spear. Known for sudden outfit changes. Yet to discovery her destiny. After teaming up with Sporkman in his last adventure, Natsume has made it her mission to bring down the forces of Shogun Z. There are still issues she needs to face about her past, having lost her parents at an early age, who she is as a heroine and what powers does the spear hold for her. Natsume is on a quest to find out more about herself and her powers given by the spear, while learning to wield her power for the forces of good. What does the future hold for her in this brand new adventure?
