Taito’s “Metal Black” Joins the Arcade Archives on PS4, Nintendo Switch

Publisher Hamster has announced that Metal Black (or Tokidensho Angel Eyes) is now available on Nintendo Switch and PS4 as part of the digital Arcade Archives series.

Originally released in arcades by Taito in 1991, Metal Black is a 2D, horizontal space shooter – or a “shmup”, as you young whippersnappers call it. The game received a SEGA Saturn port in Japan, but this is the first time that Metal Black will be available for Western consoles.

Players take flight in the secret fighter “Black Fly” (terrible name) to defeat hordes of invaders and protect your home world. As you collect a powerful energy source “NEWALONE” (another terrible name), you can unleash a destructive beam attack to wipe out your enemies.

Like other Arcade Archives titles, players can post their high scores to the online leaderboards and change various game settings to match their own personal skill levels and taste.

Arcade Archives Metal Black is available today for $7.99 via PSN and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
